Discover the TRE® Body Technique in Barcelona

In this blog post, we talk about the somatic technique that is part of the services we offer. At Clínica Synaptica, we believe that taking care of the body is a very important part of the improvement process.

What is TRE® and What is it For?

TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercise) is a somatic method that works with the body, the nervous system, and the natural mechanism of neurogenic tremors. This technique allows completing the stress cycle and learning to bring the body back to a state of calm and social connection, achieving a renewed sense of security.

The natural mechanism of neurogenic tremors is activated through a series of stretches that can be adapted to the needs of each participant. Once the person lies on the floor, a vibration can start to be felt originating in the pelvic area and legs.

The TRE® technique was developed by Dr. David Berceli, who has extensive experience in the field of trauma prevention and intervention, stress reduction, resilience, and recovery.

Nervous system deregulation is something that happens to all of us throughout the day. Normally, the system itself can regulate and return to a state of safety. The problem arises when, for various reasons, the nervous system gets stuck in a state of hyperalertness or a state of freeze and cannot find the way back to a state of optimal safety, connection, and health.

In difficult situations, the body and the nervous system react in a way they believe will help us survive. In some cases, the sympathetic nervous system will activate to fight or flee, generating a stress response. In other cases, the body may freeze as the best way to survive, which is the activation of the parasympathetic system.

When the difficult situation has been prolonged over time, the person will likely have learned to dissociate as a way to survive the situation or live with the effects of stress. Disconnecting from one’s own body is a very common occurrence. The results manifest physically as inflammatory conditions and chronic pain, as well as tension patterns. Psychologically, it manifests as emotional instability, depression, anxiety, tension, irritability, sleep problems, etc.

What Are the Sessions Like?

TRE® sessions last between 60 and 90 minutes. First, there is a space to talk about how the person is feeling, followed by a series of stretches. Next, we work with the tremors, and at the end, the person rests in relaxation. The session concludes with a space to discuss the experience.

The support we offer is based on creating a safe and respectful space for the body to have the opportunity to release accumulated tensions, change rooted patterns, and process experiences lived through the body, integrating them to achieve a state of calm and grounding.

In TRE® sessions, the body is the main protagonist. It is a technique that is not based on dialogue but on learning the language and needs of our body, opening the opportunity for a reunion from a respectful approach to its rhythms. Far from wanting to reach any limit, this technique teaches us the benefits of learning to go slowly to rebuild a healthy and recognized relationship with the body and oneself.

TRE® is a process of several sessions where the person also has the opportunity to acquire the basic knowledge to use TRE® as a self-regulation tool. Therefore, learning grants autonomy to the person, who discovers that the body has the ability to regenerate, regulate, and return to a state of calm, well-being, and social connection.
